'The Paper' star Domhnall Gleeson struggles to handle Cillian Murphy's unexpected words

Domhnall Gleeson is recently on cloud nine as Cillian Murphy showered him with praise.

For those unaware, the 43-year-old Irish actor and screenwriter’s famous sitcom The Paper is set to drop its sophomore season, while his second popular project was his appearance as the lead in Taylor Swift’s Opalite music video, which was released in February 2026.

While conversing with Metro to promote the sophomore season of The Paper, Gleeson reflected on Murphy’s appreciation for his performance as Ned Simpson in the series.

Notably, on Graham Norton’s show, the Peaky Blinders star sang praises of his acting, as he called it “magnetic.”

Reflecting on Murphy’s words, Gleeson said, “I don’t know if it’s an Irish people thing, but we’re not very good at handling a compliment and definitely get a little bit embarrassed.”

“But Cillian would be one of my acting heroes. He is exceptional at everything, in every way, and so that meant a huge amount.”

“I definitely got a bit shy, which is weird when you’re being filmed, but it made me feel good but also embarrassed at the same time,” the Eco Valley actor stated.

It is pertinent to mention that The Paper, an American mockumentary sitcom series, which is a follow-up to and spinoff of The Office, is set to release its second season on Peacock on September 9, 2026.
