Steve Witkoff sees 'good resolution' after high-stakes Ukraine talks in Kyiv
Kushner said returning to direct negotiations involving all three countries could help advance efforts to end the war
US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner pushed for renewed trilateral talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine following meetings with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Sunday.
The visit was their first to the Ukrainian capital since the war began and followed talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
After the Kyiv meetings, Witkoff said he was “confident that there’ll be a good resolution here.”
Kushner said returning to direct negotiations involving all three countries could help advance efforts to end the war.
“One thing Steve (Witkoff) and I really thought would be productive is to go back to the trilateral format, which we were able to do about six months ago,” Kushner said, according to CNN.
He added that Washington had discussed the proposal with both Russia and Ukraine and that “hopefully we’ll have progress on that very soon.”
Witkoff described his discussions with Putin as a “good, concrete conversation.”
The US envoys held two rounds of talks with Ukrainian officials before a third involving representatives from the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv wanted the war to end fairly while preventing future Russian aggression.
“I believe that every meeting like this will bring us closer to that goal,” Zelensky said.
