US envoy arrives in Kyiv after Putin talks: Is a Ukraine peace deal closer?
Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Ukraine after their talks with Putin in Moscow
US peace envoy Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff reportedly met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv today-a move that highlights how the Trump administration has intensified its diplomatic drive to resolve Russia’s war in Ukraine.
On Saturday, Kushner and Witkoff traveled from Moscow where three hours of talks with Vladimir Putin failed to achieve a decisive turning point in the conflict to Kyiv.
According to Zelenskyy, Washington will be the cornerstone of any peace deal. He highlighted his pivotal and high-stakes moment stressing that actions must be taken before the US begins to shift its focus to the next presidential election.
Zelenskyy said he conducted a preliminary discussion with his negotiating team and said Ukraine wanted an end to the war.
“Security guarantees are needed. A dignified post-war peace is needed. Our proposals have been drawn up.”
Russia has demanded Ukraine’s withdrawal from a strategic retreat that it still controls there but Kyiz refused that reasoning can still hold for years.
Although neither side can take a big step forward, both Russian and Ukrainian forces have escalated strategic bombardments over the past few weeks.
Russia has initiated Ukrainian capital day and night with missiles and drones for the past two weeks, and the Kremlin said it would stop strikes on Kyiv until Monday, as reported by Reuters.
Ukraine has dealt devastating setbacks to Russian refineries, oil terminals and Wild berries e-commerce warehouses in a major push to raise the cost of continuing the war for Moscow.
