Craig Douglas, UK chart-topping singer, passes away at 85

Craig Douglas, who shot to stardom in the late 1950s and early 1960s, has passed away at the age of 85.

The news of the English rock and roll and pop singer’s passing came on Sunday, September 6; however, he breathed his last on September 4, 2026.

Douglas’ family shared the news of his passing in a statement, revealing that he embraced death peacefully at his residence after a short illness but they refrained from sharing what actually became his cause of death.

“It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Craig peacefully passed away this afternoon. He will be greatly missed by myself, his family, and his close friends. Rest in peace, Craig,” the statement read.

In his prime, Douglas achieved heights of success when he was managed by renowned producer Bunny Lewis and outsold acts including Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

The Pretty Blue Eyes crooner recorded eight cover versions of American hit tracks, with nine of his songs among the Top 40 UK singles.

Notably, his Top 40 UK singles also has Only Sixteen song which he recorded in 1959 at Abbey Road Studios.

It is pertinent to mention that Craig Douglas released his final record, Town Crier, in February 1963, which secured 36th position.
