Edward Furlong reminisces about working under the mentorship of James Cameron in 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'
Edward Furlong recently got candid and opened up about how it felt working with James Cameron in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
For those unaware, the 49-year-old American actor played the role of John Connor in the 1991 American science fiction action film directed alongside an ensemble cast, including Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Patrick, Earl Boen, Joe Morton, Dean Joseph Norris, Danny Cooksey, and others.
While conversing with PEOPLE magazine, Furlong opened up about launching his acting career at the age of 13, that too under the wings of legendary filmmaker Cameron.
Voicing his thoughts, he said, “I was spoiled rotten by being able to work with Jim Cameron as like the first director that I worked with because he really knows what he’s doing. It’s like you feel safe with Jim Cameron — you know it’s going to be good.”
The American History X star went on to sing praises of his respected cast member Schwarzenegger, as he felt extremely supported working with him in his first project in Hollywood.
Furlong quipped, “He just was the definition of professional. I never, ever saw Arnold complain. He always kind of lifted the mood on set.”
After working on his first movie that became a huge success at the box office, he struggled to navigate fame and attention as a teenager. Also, he started intoxicating himself due to ongoing family troubles, which hit a major blow to his career, and since then, he has been openly talking about his struggles with addiction.
The Brainscan actor shared, “Growing up in the spotlight is really hard. It’s tough enough as an adult to be able to navigate… just being a human being and making mistakes, and whatever, when you got a spotlight on you ... it’s tough.”
It is pertinent to mention that despite facing difficulties with fame as a child star, Edward Furlong just found acting like very therapeutic… just really gravitated towards it. I’m blessed to have been able to, through most of my life, been able to do something that I really love doing."
