King Charles and Donald Trump’s relationship gets unexpected twist
King Charles and Donald Trump’s relationship has changed over the time.
Donald Trump’s first meeting with King Charles was markedly different from their earlier meeting this year, when they had a formal farewell at White House, where Trump praised the monarch, calling him "the greatest King" and saying that the king is "fantastic".
However, the veteran journalist Susan Page, who is also an author, wrote in her new book, The Queen and her Presidents: The Hidden Hand that Shaped History, "Never mind that Trump had complained to aides that the then-Prince Charles bored him during their first meeting in 2019.”
She further wrote that after meeting Trump spoke with his former secretary, Stephanie Grisham, "Afterward, Trump told Grisham that the conversation had been terrible. 'Nothing but climate change,' Trump groused, rolling his eyes. Melania Trump confirmed that with a laugh. 'Oh, yes, he was very bored,' she said of her husband. But Trump said he had had a change of heart about Charles since then."
It is worth noting here that King Charles, along with his wife, Queen Camilla, made a visit to New York, Washington, D.C and Virginia in April earlier this year, and it is said that the visit was the biggest diplomatic test for King Charles.
Reflecting on the importance of the visit, a palace source said, "What looked like risk and challenge was also a phenomenal opportunity. One that was grasped in both hands by the King, and we shall leave you to conclude what the outcome of that was."
They further spoke about the two couples’ relationship: "They get on very well. And it’s not just the King and the president. It’s all four of them with each other. The warmth that you see in public is absolutely the warmth you see in private," the source stated.
