Zooey Deschanel recalls 'insane' experience on 'New Girl' set

Zooey Deschanel recently reminisced about her struggles during her time on the set of New Girl.

For those unaware, the 46-year-old American actress played the role of a quirky teacher, Jessica Day, in the famous sitcom, who moves into an apartment loft with three single men. All of them always support her despite finding her behavior problematic most of the time.

On the Wednesday, September 2 episode of her castmate Jake Johnson’s podcast, We’re Here to Help, Deschanel shared that she and her costars were “forced to drive home” from set because none of them had transportation to get to work.

She told Johnson, “The hours were insane. I would drive home from work and be almost like falling asleep.”

The Failure to Launch star went on to share that some nights were so hard on her and that she ended up calling in reinforcements for the trip home.

Deschanel recalled, “My mom would wake up in the middle of the night because I’d be like, ‘I’m so tired. I can’t drive home.’ And she would wake up to talk to me, so I’d stay awake. Isn’t that really sweet?”

Johnson also agreed with her, stating that the schedule was “too much” and actors “get so weird” because they are “so overtired.”

It is pertinent to mention that New Girl ran for seven seasons from September 20, 2011, to May 15, 2018.
