Apple’s iPhone Ultra reportedly won’t include black option

Black is becoming an endangered colour in Cupertino. Sources describing Apple's colour plans for its rumoured folding iPhone say the device, widely referred to as the iPhone Ultra, will launch without a black option at all, continuing a pattern that started with the iPhone 17 Pro's Deep Blue and the MacBook Neo's Indigo finish.

But when Apple revamped the iPhone into the iPhone X back in 2017, it was available in silver and space grey colours.

Reportedly , the foldable is unlikely to take that route and will go with a standard silver and white design combined with indigo blue, which will look more like the iPhone 17 Pro Deep Blue and not the MacBook Neo Indigo.

The rumour about those two colours is not on its own because leaker Sonny Dickson later shared images of camera guards for the foldable device in silver and dark blue colours, adding visual proof to the prior source-based rumour.

However, not all leaks concur, as there has been at least one recent rumour suggesting the presence of a third colour, red.

What to expect from Apple?

While the foldable stays restrained, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are shaping up to be Apple's most colourful flagships in years. The rumoured lineup includes a purplish dark cherry as the headline shade, a light blue reminiscent of the iPhone 13 Pro's Sierra Blue, and likely one of silver or dark grey to round things out.

Apple is expected to unveil the foldable iPhone at its "Surprise and Shine" event on Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT, alongside the new Pro models. Rumours point to a 5.5-inch cover screen opening to a 7.8-inch internal display, slightly smaller than an iPad mini.
