Ontario byelections: Progressive Conservatives take two seats as NDP holds one
The results mean neither party is expected to lose ground in the three byelections
Ontario Premier Doug Ford's Progressive Conservatives and the New Democrats are projected to hold their seats following three provincial byelections.
Progressive Conservative candidate Jeff Beattie is projected to win Hamilton East-Stoney Creek, keeping the riding in the hands of Ford's governing party.
The PCs are also expected to retain York-Simcoe, where candidate Susan Lahey is projected to win.
Meanwhile, New Democrat Fatima Shaban is projected to win Scarborough Southwest, allowing the Ontario NDP to hold the Toronto riding.
The results mean neither party is expected to lose ground in the three byelections, with the Progressive Conservatives retaining two seats and the NDP keeping one.
The races came as Ontario voters continue to face concerns about health care, education and the cost of living.
Candidates said those issues frequently came up while campaigning and speaking with residents.
The escalating trade dispute between Canada and the United States was also a concern among voters.
