Google's AI video tool now scripts and narrates your Docs, PDFs, and Word files automatically
Nobody enjoys sitting through a 40-page training manual. Google's answer, announced today on its Workspace Updates blog, is a new "Docs to Video" option tucked into Vids' File menu that turns a static document into a narrated video without asking you to write a script.
Pick a file from Google Drive or upload one from your computer; PDFs, Google Docs, and Word files all work. Vids reads through it, breaks the content into scenes, and drafts a script on its own.
Each section of the source document becomes its own scene in the editable script, so a five-chapter report turns into five distinct video segments. Users can rewrite any line by hand, delete sections they don't need, and swap in a different AI voice before generating the final file.
Once the script is locked in, Vids builds the video itself, pairing the narration with AI-generated images and backgrounds rather than leaving you to source visuals separately. Google is pitching it as a shortcut for catching up on meeting notes or training material you'd otherwise skim and forget.
The feature is landing for Google Business, Enterprise, and Education Workspace plans, along with anyone on a Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra subscription. Rollout timing depends on your domain: accounts on Rapid Release should see it right away, while Scheduled Release domains get a gradual rollout starting September 5 that can take up to 15 days to reach every user.
