Tim Cook’s ‘emotional’ goodbye to Apple after 15 years as CEO: What’s next for Apple?

Tim Cook has officially stepped down as the CEO of Apple after 15-years of growth on September 1, 2026.

Cook’s departure marked the conclusion of a monumental 15-year tenure that saw Apple’s market valuation skyrocket from roughly $350 billion to over $4 trillion. Instead of completely cutting himself off from Apple, Cook has moved into the role of Executive Chairman of Apple’s board.

The outgoing CEO bid farewell to Apple’s staff in an emotional way. Taking to X, Cook posted, “Sending lots of love to the Apple community on my last day as CEO. My title changes tomorrow, but the love I have for the Apple community never will.”

“Thank you for being a constant source of inspiration. My gratitude is endless, and I’m excited for the next chapter!”

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, also set congratulations, “Congratulations on an epic career at Apple!”

Tim Cook took the position of CEO at Apple after Steve Jobs departed in August 2011, shortly before his passing the following October.

Speaking about the new leadership, Cook will be succeeded by incoming Apple CEO John Ternus, the company’s former Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

Ternus, a 25-year Apple veteran who played a pivotal role in the transition to Apple Silicon, the iPad lineup, and the Vision Pro, inherits a tech giant facing distinct new horizons.

Speaking about the immediate road ahead for Apple, the leadership transition is going to be structurally stable for iPh0ne maker company rather than a seismic strategic shift. Based on Ternus’s engineering background, the company will put emphasis on tightly integrated hardware and silicon development.

In the Cook’s era, the company gained leverage over global supply chains, service monetization and wearables like Apple Watch and Airpods. Under the leadership of Ternus, Apple will try to gain a footprint in generative AI, machine learning integration and advanced spatial computing.
