Lamine Yamal is finding his ‘top level’ again, says Barcelona boss Hansi Flick

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick says Lamine Yamal is showing signs of returning to his “top level” as the Spanish champions prepare to face Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Monday.

The 19-year-old struggled during Barcelona’s season opener against Elche before improving in their victory over Athletic Bilbao, although he did not score.

“I know everyone is worried about how is Lamine, how is he doing. And of course, look at his situation – he played a World Cup after a huge injury,” Flick told reporters on Sunday, according to Al Jazeera.

Yamal suffered a hamstring injury in April before returning for Spain at the World Cup, where he had a limited individual impact despite his country winning the tournament.

Flick said playing the full match against Athletic was important for the winger as he rebuilds his form and fitness.

“We saw him in some situations really on this top level. And now, you couldn’t see this in the training today, but I saw it, and it was excellent,” Flick said.

“Everyone loves Lamine, and he’s in a good way. And we have to support him, and we do that.”

Barcelona have won both of their opening La Liga matches, with Raphinha filling in as a makeshift number nine.

Flick added that he remains satisfied with his squad despite Barcelona’s search for another striker.
