Meta projected it could spend as much as a major amount annually on Anthropic’s AI models despite its public rebukes of the company
Meta is reportedly considering spending billions of dollars a year on Anthropic’s AI tools, emphasizing the increasing demand for advanced AI systems within the company.
Meta’s leaders are mindful that their expenditures could affect Anthropic as the start-up heads toward a record-breaking stock flotation that could value it at $2 trillion.
According to Sina Finance, Meta previously projected internally this year annual spending on Anthropic’s AI models could reach as much as $10 billion. The report further underlined that Meta has become a major user of Anthropic’s AI products and ranks among the startup’s largest customers.
In this connection, Meta’s head of AI product, Nat Friedman told employees that if Meta uses only its own coding tools from OpenAI, it could lower Anthropic's revenue ahead of its public offering.
Meta also relied on Anthropic models for internal testing and computing support for its new product Hatch, while Meta’s developers began adopting Anthropic’s Claude Code on a large scale earlier this year.
Meta executives are in key talks to discuss a projected $10 billion expenditure on Anthropic. Furthermore, in June the company told employees that it was projected to spend billions on internal AI usage this year and would optimize its expense management system.
