How much space will GTA 6 actually take on your PS5?

Grand Theft Auto VI is barreling toward its November 19 release, backed by a Netflix-exclusive gameplay reveal later this month and no shortage of leaks along the way. But one basic detail remains genuinely unknown: how much hard drive space the game will actually require.

There has been no announcement by Rockstar regarding file size and no leaks that may give away the actual figure for the size. Rather, fans have been indulging in guesses and predictions which have all been floating around within the Reddit community at about 100GB to 250GB.

These are all guesses and not based on any leaks from Rockstar or even Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar.

Fans have made a heavy reference to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, where the 300GB size is cited. However, such a comparison does not make sense here.

This is because the size for Black Ops 6 is exaggerated because an installation of a game usually includes multiple different games like Warzone, traditional multiplayer and campaigns, among other things. Activision has done a notoriously bad job of compressing their files.

Some of the size speculation stems from confusion over GTA 6's retail format. The game will get a boxed physical release available starting November 12, a week ahead of launch to support pre-loading, but that box contains a download code rather than a disc.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has outright rejected any possibility of such a digital-only strategy by saying to Variety, "That's not the plan."

Some have gone on to guess that the extremely large size of the files might have been behind the reason for Rockstar's choice to go without physical discs, but no confirmation has been given by them yet either.

Dual disc launches were relatively popular before and even during the era of the PlayStation 2, where games such as Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Dragoon, and Final Fantasy VII used two discs for their content.

It had also come up again recently as Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition became the first game to be released on two discs on PS5. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has recently followed suit and has become the first game to launch on two discs of around 145GB.
