Iranian president calls for an end to war from position of strength

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for an end to the months-long war with the US, saying Tehran is operating from a position of strength.

While talks over the long-standing matter remain unresolved between both sides in the war started by the US and Israel in February, tensions continue to intensify.

Tehran is keeping the key Strait of Hormuz partially closed and Washington is holding a fast counter-blockade of Iran.

In this connection, Pezeshkin said in a meeting:

“It is better that we bring the war to an end now as we are in a position of power and dignity,

“The whole world acknowledges our victory and emphasizes that America has attacked our schools, hospitals and infrastructure in violation of all regulations and is hated around the world.”

Pezeshkian also justified the memorandum of understanding agreed with the US in June ending the war reframing the narrative in Tehran’s favor.

His remarks come weeks after Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei maintained he had approved the deal to end the war despite divergent perspectives.

Iran’s parliament has also condemned the government over the deal reportedly giving unfair advantages to the US particularly regarding the reopening of the strategic Hormuz Strait.

According to reports in US media, the American navy has been guiding and protecting secret convoys of tankers through the southern sector of the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, Donald Trump has announced plans for tougher economic pressure on Iran warning that countries supporting or doing business with Tehran could face devastating impacts. The US president wrote in all capital letters on Truth Social that he was introducing “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.”

The Trump administration is transitioning to economic pressure rather than military action against Tehran even as the US president’s forever war has dragged on in recent months.
