Meta AI Mac app adds dictation, screen context tools
Muse Spark powers system-wide dictation and screen-aware answers in Meta's new desktop app
Meta has released a dedicated Mac app for Meta AI, and its headline feature isn't chat; it's dictation that follows you into whatever app you're using. Press a shortcut, speak, and the text lands wherever your cursor sits, whether that's mail, a code editor or a spreadsheet.
This system-wide dictation uses the Muse Spark model by Meta and pits Meta AI directly against dictation-based applications such as Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, and Monologue. Google did something similar last month, updating its Gemini app for Mac with a system-wide dictation option.
A quick invocation through the option space brings up a small window of Meta AI Composer on top of whatever application is currently running, allowing users to ask questions without leaving their current application.
In addition to dictation, the application can see what is displayed on the screen and give answers to any questions users may have regarding what they see. Users connect an open Mac application window to the conversation, and once granted permission for screen recording and accessibility, Meta AI sees what is displayed and a screenshot.
The ability to link Instagram, Facebook, Meta ads, and Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, has been made possible.
Businesses can enquire about the performance of the campaigns and engagement of the audience and obtain public intelligence on the competition and have the Meta AI create decks and spreadsheets for the business.
The release fits a pattern Meta has followed all year: expanding AI-driven customer support across WhatsApp and Instagram, and building out Muse Spark into coding tools like Muse Code.
During Meta's Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg pointed to selling AI agents to businesses as a major growth opportunity, one he said extends well beyond simple automation.
