Jason Arday final message to friend revealed after his death

A heartbreaking voice note has been shared by former University of Cambridge Professor Jason Arday to his friend in which he disclosed that he felt he “couldn’t go on”, sent shortly before his death.

He was declared dead by emergency services after being found unconscious at a property on Daley Thompson in Battersea just after 3pm on Friday. According to Metropolitan Police, death is being treated as unexpected but is not thought to be dangerous.

The professor and director of the Autism Research Centre at the University of Cambridge told the BBC he spoke to Professor Arday on Friday morning. In this connection, Sir Simon told Radio 4’s Today programme: “He was being subjected to relentless security including ridicule, discrediting absolutely every detail of his life and he wasn't coping with the loss of his career.”

The University of Cambridge has announced plans to launch an investigation into the recruitment process surrounding Jason Arday, who resigned in the midst of a plagiarism controversy.

He was appointed by its Faculty of Education and his teaching at the institution as the vice-chancellor called the case an exception.

For those unversed, Arday was a professor of sociology of education who became Cambridge’s youngest black professor in 2023 resigned after a series of media reports declaring he plagiarized his PhD thesis.

National Education Union General secretary Daniel Kebede released a statement saying, “I don't believe this was ever simply about professional conduct or plagiarism. There is a profound difference between scrutiny and a sustained public campaign that turns an individual into a symbol of everything.”
