Piers Morgan has responded to the tragic death of Jason Arday, the former Cambridge professor who was at the center of plagiarism scandal.
Arday was found unresponsive at his residence in South London. According to the capital’s Metropolitan Police Services statement, the death of the 41-year-old is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. However, the real cause of death has not been disclosed yet.
Arday’s death comes as he resigned as professor of sociology of education from Cambridge after the authorities questioned his achievements and accused him of plagiarising the work. Later, they launched an investigation into his work.
However, he denied all these wrongful accusations, expressing that "the relentless accusations, speculation and public commentary have taken a profound toll on me and on those I love."
Arday emphasized that his resignation should not "be mistaken for an acceptance of the narratives that have surrounded me."
His sudden death evoked various responses from notable personalities. The renowned broadcaster, Piers Morgan posted on X, “Incredibly tragic end to a very sad saga. Massive questions to answer at Cambridge University.”
Education Secretary Lucy Powell also expressed that she was “deeply shocked and saddened” to hear about the death.
Taking to X, London mayor Sadiq Khan posted, “Arday had faced an unacceptable public hounding and campaign of abuse, adding that he was a victim of "a pernicious public shaming that other people in his position simply wouldn't have faced.”
"His death was a tragedy, but once again it should be a wake up call for all of us," he added.
The family of Arday also released a heartbreaking statement, “The campaign of misinformation was too much for Jason, who was a gentle man and who always wanted to see the best in everyone.”
