Global foldable pre-orders near 5 million as the Z Fold 8's wider screen drives demand
Samsung is scrambling to keep up with demand for its newest foldable. The company has increased Galaxy Z Fold 8 production by an additional 1 million units after pre-orders for its latest foldable lineup surged past even its own expectations.
According to the report by ETNews, Samsung's pre-orders for its foldable phones have surpassed every single sales record that it previously set, and that too includes that of the Galaxy Note 10 series that Samsung released back in 2019.
The total pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are expected to hit the 5 million mark globally, which is surprising considering the prices of the devices in comparison to a regular smartphone.
Making an additional one million phones midway through a launch cycle is quite an unusual step for Samsung.
This is largely owing to the Galaxy Z Fold 8's redesigned proportions. In its closed position, the cover screen comes with a 10:16 aspect ratio tailored for vertical videos on social media channels such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. When it comes to the unfolded position, the primary screen has been provided with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
This innovation has made a great impact among the buyers of the phone. Indeed, the redesigned proportions of the Z Fold 8 alone have accounted for around 59% of all pre-orders placed for Samsung's foldable phones, and the phone itself has attracted 30% more pre-orders than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
