Trump pauses US strikes on Iran after deal framework reached
‘The president said Iran and other governments in the region asked the US to hold off any attack because the perimeters of a deal had been agreed to’
Donald Trump announced that he had halted a planned attack against Iran after the several Middle Eastern countries agreed to a framework for a peace deal.
In a post on Truth Social, the US president asserted he was asked by Iran and other countries in the Middle East to hold off any attack as the perimeters of a deal which could include reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending Iran’s nuclear threat had been agreed upon.
His comments came following US media reports that Washington may have been preparing further high-intensity offensives on Iran over the weekend.
Tehran accused the US of mounting tensions on Saturday, adding that regional states cooperating with Washington would be engulfed by war.
The security alert released a statement on Saturday: “Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and potential travel disruptions.”
Trump further clarified in his post that the US was locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran at levels of Terror, Strength and Power not observed since World War II.
He maintained that cancelling the attacks would be beneficial to the world and essential for a successful and prosperous Iran.
In light of the ongoing scenario, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke to Trump and voiced apprehensions regarding the prospective walkouts.
The renewed fighting comes after a June memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran collapsed last month after Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
According to administration officials, they have revived negotiations that would require Iran to first agree to a ceasefire and suspend hostilities against US forces, commercial shipping and American Gulf allies while Trump continues to insist that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and that Tehran renounce its nuclear path.
The US has blockaded Iranian ports while Iran has fired missiles and drones at US assets in countries across the Middle East and targeted shipping in the Strait of Hormuz-a crucial waterway for international oil shipping. The US and Israel began launching their strikes against Iran on February 28 leading to rapid and extreme shifts in oil prices.
