G7 summit 2026 in France: what’s on the agenda and who is attending?
Leaders from G7 nations and invited guest countries are set to attend the June 15–17 summit focused on global crises and economic challenges
G7 summit 2026 is about to begin in France from June 15-June 17.
Leaders of the world are gathering for the latest Group of Seven summit in the French resort town of Evian-les-Bains on Monday.
Who is attending the G7 summit this year?
Besides leaders of the G7 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the European Union (EU), French President Emmanuel Macron has invited several heads of state from non-G7 countries as guests.
Guest leaders invited by France:
These include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Additionally, leaders of Australia, Brazil, Kenya and South Korea are also attending.
While the leaders of India, Ukraine, Egypt and Qatar have confirmed their attendance, it is unclear if the Saudi crown prince will be attending this year’s summit.
Importantly, United States President Donald Trump will join fellow world leaders at the summit after announcing a tentative deal with Iran to end the war.
Business and tech leaders:
Notably, AI executives from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and Mistral AI are also expected to attend, officials from France who are crafting an agenda aimed at discussing the world’s crises and broad economic challenges.
South Africa not invited:
On the contrary South Africa announced in March that it had been disinvited from this year’s France summit after initially being invited.
'G7 or Group of Seven'
G7 is an informal group of seven advanced economies including the U.S., Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.
However, the European Union also takes part in G7 meetings, although it is not counted as one of the seven members.
Unlike organizations such as the United Nations or NATO, the G7 has no permanent headquarters, treaty or legal status.
While, its presidency rotates annually among member states and France currently holds the presidency after taking over from Canada.
