Severe winter weather has triggered a winter storm warning in the Sierra Nevada, with heavy snowfall creating dangerous driving conditions and widespread disruption across the region.

Footage released by the California Highway Patrol showed roads covered in thick snow, with vehicles spinning out, traffic backing up and some routes forced to close.
Authorities said several drivers lost control of their vehicles in slippery conditions, with tow crews working throughout the day to recover stranded cars.
The California Highway Patrol warned motorists about the risks, saying: “Been doing this all morning. Cars sliding off, drivers underestimating conditions, and tow straps getting a full workout. Snow’s coming down and roads are slick. Slow it down. Give yourself space. And if you’re heading up here… come prepared.”
Officials are urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel, reduce speed and ensure they are properly equipped for winter conditions.
The storm is expected to continue affecting travel across the Sierra Nevada, with further snowfall likely to worsen already hazardous road conditions.
