The insiders believe King Charles could abdicate the throne for his elder son Prince William within weeks.
The New Idea, citing the royal insiders, has reported that King Charles could abdicate right after Trooping the Colour in June, adding Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton are already being fast-tracked for the throne.
The close confidant tells the outlet, King Charles may step aside “in a matter of weeks”, adding his health would be the key reason.
The source said the monarch health has been put in the spotlight after it was noticeable that the Prince and Princess of Wales took the reins at a recent state banquet.
While the royal couple radiated confidence, youth, and charm, King Charles “really struggled” that night, the insider claimed referring to state banquet in honour of Nigerian President earlier this month.
The King looked small, frail, and at one point, he almost slumped into his chair as he seemed “so exhausted.”
Moreover, the courtiers also confirmed that King Charles is “struggling to keep up with his already pared-down roster”, which is why there’s been “an increase in urgent talks about his abdication”.
Prince William, who is the heir to British throne, is said to be fully prepared and has been taking on more duties.
The claims about King Charles abdication came days after reports Prince William is concerned about the monarch's workload amid health worries.
However, Queen Camilla is encouraging King Charles to continue royal duties amid health issues while the Prince of Wales wants him to ease off the workload.
