Princess Marie Christine, Kensington Palace resident, falls 'seriously ill'

Kensington Palace has not issued a statement on the illness of the Princess Michael of Kent

Princess Marie Christine, the wife ofMichael of Kent, has suffered a stroke, with sources saying the royal has been left bed ridden.

"Her Royal Highness suffered a stroke. Sadly, she is now bedridden," said a friend of Princess Michael while speaking to the Daily Mail.

Princess Michael celebrated her 81st birthday in January, having spent nearly five decades as part of the British Royal Family.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the health problems suffered byPrincess Marie Christine who lives at Kensington Palace.

Her husband Michael of Kent and the Duke of Kent are first cousins of the late Queen Elizabeth.

The Duke of Kent's wife Duchess Katharine died in September last year at 92.

She was the oldest royal at the time of her death. Now her husband the Duke of Kent is the oldest living member of the British royal family at 90.
