For peace in Afghanistan

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has in his recent statements urged Pakistan to take military action against the Taliban. Instead of blame game Afghanistan must realise that its peaceful future depends to a great extent on an auspicious regional environment – with Pakistan at its core. Conversely, an unstable Afghanistan threatens Pakistan. The multiple other significant factors impacting Afghanistan are: the stay-exit dilemma of the US, will of the Taliban, India, the Afghan refugee issue, Pak-Afghan border management, Afghan government’s action against the TTP etc.

The Afghan government and the international coalition must appreciate Pakistan’s role against the war on terror. And the US should make up its mind regarding leaving or staying on in Afghanistan because events will take a different course of actions in either of the options. Pakistan is in constant contact with Afghanistan, China and the US to discuss the fate of the fragile peace efforts. The international community has frequently acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism; and so must the Afghan government. Pakistan is ready to support a genuine peace process for Afghanistan. The Afghan government’s cooperation is imperative for mutual security.
