This refers to the article ‘Why do they (still ) vote for them?’ (July 29) by Shahzad Chaudhry. The writer has correctly analysed that only those politicians won seats in the AJK elections who promised jobs, arms licences and financial incentives to secure votes.

However the contestants of the same political party could not win many seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the 2013 elections. Could we extrapolate the writer’s finding to all poverty-ridden areas? Political analysts need to dig down deep to explore the reasons a party wins or loses elections in South Asian countries.
