The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced on Saturday that it had arrested two alleged members of the proscribed Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) in an “intelligence-based operation” in Machhar Colony within the Docks police limits.

According to the CTD spokesperson, the two men, identified as Ghani Aman Chandio and Sarmad Mirani, were “key operatives” of the outlawed separatist organisation and involved in “brainwashing and recruiting students into the SRA network.”

The spokesperson further said that two hand grenades and explosive materials were seized from their possession, and that at least five criminal cases were already registered against them at different police stations.

The CTD also alleged that the suspects had provided information about another associate, Noor Chandio, and that further operations were being planned against the remaining members of the network.

Earlier this week, The News had reported by quoting family members of Ghani Aman Chandio, claimed to be a central organiser of the Sindheen National Congress, that he had been allegedly picked up by unidentified persons from outside a hospital in Karachi, where he had gone to visit his newborn twin daughters.

Similarly, Sarmad Mirani, a youth from Larkana, was claimed to be taken into custody from outside his residence days after Chandio’s disappearance, as per a claim of his family. His family had also approached rights organisations and local media, alleging illegal detention.
