ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Pakistan Blind Sports Federation, led by its President Waqas Warraich, visited the Senate at the Parliament House, where senators from across the political spectrum welcomed them.
Those who met the delegation included senators Sherry Rehman, Sarmad Ali, Farooq H. Naek, Mufti Noorul Haq Qadri, Ali Zafar, Saifullah Niazi, Falak Naz Chitrali, Masroorul Hassan, Ponjo Bheel, Gurdeep Singh, Dost Muhammad Masood, Dr. Humayun Muhammad, and Hidayatullah.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Sherry Rehman said: “It is our privilege to meet blind children and youth from all across Pakistan today. We are pleasantly surprised that under the hosting of the Pakistan Blind Sports Federation, teams from 11 countries will participate in the Asia-Pacific Goalball event.”
She added that she would raise her voice at every platform for the promotion of blind sports and bring the issue of their sponsorship before the Senate as well.
Federation President Waqas Warraich said: “Despite being blind, we are raising Pakistan’s name at the international level, yet we receive no support from the government or any other side.”
He appealed to the senators to ensure official government-level hosting of the Asia-Pacific Goalball event.
In response, Senator Sherry Rehman and other members from both the government and the opposition assured the delegation of full cooperation and support.
