Finance Ministry contradicts news item

ISLAMABAD: The spokesperson of Ministry of Finance on Saturday contradicted a news item appeared in a section of the press stating that the present government had waived off bank loans during last three years.

He said during Senate session of Friday, the State Bank of Pakistan had produced some statics regarding the bank loans waived off by the commercial banks during the last thirty years, said a press release issued here.

The spokesperson said no such kind of report was tabled before the Senate mentioning any loan waived off by the present government.

He said the government had nothing to do with waiving off the bank loans rather it was a routine activity of the commercial banks which they performed in accordance with the State Bank rules. The commercial banks provide these details regularly in their accounts and also inform the CIB Wing of the State Bank.
