KARACHI: Balochistan Rifle Association (BRA) is organising a shooting event offering up to Rs15 million in prize money from August 6-14 in Quetta.
“They are organising it with the help of Pakistan Army,” said Executive Vice President National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) Razi Ahmed Khan. “This is a big event and has almost all categories of shooting,” he added.
He told ‘The News’ that the events included pit bull rifle competition for 300 meters, 500 meters, and 1000 meters. “Other events are for shotgun, air pistol, air rifle, and 0.22 rifle (two types including scopic sights),” said Razi.
He added that teams from across the country would participate in the extravaganza.
It should be noted that a shooting range in Balochistan has got skeet machines replaced from PN Karsaz range.
A team of Pakistan Navy recently went to set up these two used skeet machines at the range being operated by Sardar Naseer.
This arrangement will help skeet shooters in the province and promote this sport. Because of the tense security situation shooting ranges in Balochistan are not being used regularly.
One of the top shooters of the country told ‘The News’ that this extravaganza has low attraction for serious athletes because the competitions are non-sporting and traditional. “The only attraction is heavy prize money,” said the athlete.
