Sabrina Carpenter signs up for next big project beyond music

After conquering hearts with her music Sabrina Carpenter is venturing into film production with a major studio.

The 26-year-old pop sensation has locked a deal to star in and produce an Alice in Wonderland-inspired musical for Universal Pictures, marking her first major lead role on the big screen.

Having started her career as a Disney Channel star, the Espresso hitmaker is no stranger to acting but stepping into a major lead role in a studio film is surely an uncharted territory for her.

While plot details are kept under wraps the untitled project will be brought to life from the script of DGA Award winner Lorene Scafaria, known for Succession and Hustlers.

The Two-time Emmy nominee will also direct the upcoming project. In addition to Carpenter, Marc Platt will produce through Universal-based Marc Platt Productions, which recently released Wicked: For Good on November 21.

This new project comes on the heels of the Manchild songstress’ six Grammy nominations for her seventh studio album Man’s Best Friend.

As an actor, her credits include Prime Video’s Emergency and the indie drama The Short History of the Long Road, as well as the Tall Girl films from Netflix, Disney+’s Clouds and 20th Century Fox’s The Hate U Give.

Most recently, she signed on to guest star in a Muppet Show special for Disney+.

The Please Please Please chart topper first rose to prominence as Maya Hart in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World and starred as Jenny Parker in the Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting.

Since her "Disney days," she has successfully transitioned to an adult pop star and actress, taking on projects beyond the network.

Currently she is on her Short n Sweet world tour supporting her sixth and seventh studio albums, Short n Sweet and Man’s Best Friend.
