King Charles goes solo to support veterans in Battersea

King Charles stepped out solo in London today, visiting Chatfield Health Care in Battersea to shine a light on the vital work being done to support Britain’s veterans.

The King appeared in high spirits as he toured the facility, which provides a range of tailored health services and rehabilitation programs for former servicemen and women.

During the engagement, he met with several veterans and patients, including Shane Barker, taking time to hear their personal stories and experiences with the centre’s bespoke support initiatives.

Reflecting on their experiences, Charles offered a thoughtful nod to the transition many face,

“The difficulty, I suspect, is that when you leave the forces, you’re leaving that whole family of your unit and suddenly left wondering what to do. This must be a great help,” he remarked warmly.

Chatfield Health Care (CHC) is one of 4,450 veteran-friendly GP practices across England, a programme accredited by the Royal College of GPs and NHS England.

Dr. Barker explained that identifying veterans can be as simple and as powerful, asking one key question, “Have you served?”

“We don’t always know who they are,” he said. “Many are self-sufficient, carrying both physical and mental trauma from their service. We’re working to overcome those barriers so we can identify and support them.”

He added that veterans often shoulder invisible burdens. “They’ve seen and endured things most people never will. They carry that baggage quietly. They’re trained to be self-reliant — not the first to call for help,” Barker said.

As he left Chatfield, he couldn’t resist sharing a hearty laugh with well wishers after his visit to the health care.

Dapper in a blue pinstripe suit and a poppy on his lapel, the monarch appeared in high spirits as he greeted an enthusiastic crowd outside.

Ever the conversationalist, the King exchanged smiles and jokes with onlookers, many of whom whipped out their phones for a quick snap.
