ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Ishaq Dar on Tuesday reaffirmed Islamabad’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, urging Afghanistan to ensure its territory is not used for hostile activities against Pakistan.
Responding to concerns expressed by some opposition lawmakers in the Senate, the DPM/FM told the Upper House that recent dialogues with Afghanistan’s government, held in Türkiye and Qatar, focused on engaging Afghan authorities to curb cross-border militancy.
Dar emphasised that militant groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are operating from the Afghan soil and conducting terrorist activities against Pakistan. He explained that Pakistan, during these talks presented concrete evidence of these groups’ involvement in attacks on Pakistani soil. Dar sounded optimistic about the upcoming meeting with Afghan authorities, hoping for constructive engagement and tangible progress.
He conceded that incidents of terrorism have increased to levels even higher than in 2012. “Muttaqi Sahib called six times and I told him that I only want one thing from you: that your land should not be used against us. I told him that you have put us in trouble. The government has made a clear decision. We will fight till the end,” he contended.
