Popular fruit sold nationwide, recalled over Listeria

Popular yellow and white peaches have been recalled due to concerns about Listeria contamination.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that Moonlight companies are recalling their most popular fruit, grown in California and sold across the country.

The Companies stated on October 29, 2025, that they would be "voluntarily recalling" yellow and white peaches sold in stores across the nation between September 16, 2025 and October 29, 2025.

The companies issued the recall because Listeria monocytogenes, a disease-causing bacterium, was discovered in the packing facility.

Following the issue, the FDA warned consumers about consuming various peach varieties in a statement released on October 30, 2025.

The affected fruit was sold nationwide between September 16 and October 29, 2025, and retailed as both individual pieces of fruit and multi-packs.

The peaches were available for sale at major retailers, including Kroger, Sprouts, Food Lion, and Trader Joe's, and some retailers have alerted their customers.

The recall "does not include packages or PLU stickers with the words' Washington' and/or 'Organic," the FDA's report reads.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention CDC explains Listeria as a “bacterium that can contaminate many foods, with infections caused by eating food with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria."

Although symptoms can vary, a Listeria infection can "cause invasive illness and intestinal illness."

Short-term symptoms among healthy individuals with a Listeria infection can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, and abdominal pain.

Many food products in the U.S. have been recently recalled due to a listeria risk, and customers have been advised to throw them away.

Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the United States, killing roughly 260 people per year.

People love peaches as a fresh fruit and as a healthy substitute, while others enjoy smoothies packed with vitamins A and C.

Currently, no peach-related illnesses have been reported following the nationwide recall of the fruit.

However, the FDA has advised people to throw away the recently purchased stock or return it to grocers.
