Sarah Ferguson wore her expensive engagement ring for a long time after she got separated from Prince Andrew.

The former couple tied the knot on July 23, 1986, and finalised their divorce in 1996.

Despite their separation, they agreed on rather unconventional living arrangements in the following years: the pair continue to live together in Royal Lodge, which has become a bone of contention amid the recent title controversy.

Apart from their unique living situation, Sarah continued to wear pieces from her wedding ensemble. She sported her bridal tiara for years afterward and even continued to wear her engagement ring for a while.

Interestingly, the former Duchess of York was pictured wearing her ruby ring until 2003, long after their separation.

For context, the ring features a striking three-carat Burmese ruby enclosed with 10 sparkling diamonds, according to UK-based jeweller Steven Stone.

At the time of their engagement, Andrew gushed about the ring, which he found perfectly suitable for his then-fiancée and slightly unconventional.

Andrew explained in an interview:

'We came to the mutual conclusion that red was probably the best colour for Sarah. That's how we come to the choice of the ruby. The extra bits around the outside, we wanted something that was slightly unconventional.'

For those unversed, recent days have been particularly challenging for the royal family following the highly publicised scandal involving Prince Andrew.

This week that has seen Andrew's give up all his titles, including the Duke of York in the wake of serious allegations linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

As a result, Fergie will also be no longer the hold the royal rank of Duchess and will simply be known as Sarah Ferguson.
