Portland Coach Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier arrested in FBI gambling case

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier face federal charges following their arrest on Thursday, October 24, 2025 in an extensive FBI investigation into illegal gambling operations.

The Justice Department announced: “Both men participated in criminal schemes involving NBA insider betting and rigged poker games connected to New York crime families.”

Federal authorities detailed how Billups and Rozier allegedly engaged in separate but related criminal operations that utilized confidential game information and sophisticated cheating technology.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the investigation uncovered "tens of millions of dollars in fraud and theft" across eleven states, with over thirty individuals facing charges.

The indictment alleges Rozier provided advance knowledge of his early exit from a March 2023 game against New Orleans, enabling gamblers to place substantial wagers on his performance.

Prosecutors claim the Miami guard informed associates about his planned injury departure, creating illegal betting opportunities through non-public information.

Billups faces additional conspiracy counts for participating in manipulated poker events that employed x-ray tables and rigged shuffling machines.

The Hall of Fame coach allegedly joined games where organized crime groups cheated participants, while Rozier stands accused of wire fraud and money laundering alongside former NBA player Damon Jones.

The star-duo now face potential prison sentences if convicted following their scheduled court appearances.
