Alaska Airlines operations disrupted by major IT outage, flights halted across U.S.

Alaska Airlines implemented a temporary nationwide ground stop for its flights at all US airports due to an IT outage affecting operations on Thursday October 23.

The airline did not clarify how long the outage would last and how many flights were impacted.

Concerning the situation, relevant departments have been actively and efficiently working to restore the operations.

The US carrier said in a statement that it was experiencing an IT outage, which was resulting in affected operations and led to a “temporary ground stop”.

According to an advisory by the Federal Aviation Administration, the ground stop also affected Horizon Air, which is operated by Alaska Airlines.

Alaska Airlines is part of the Alaska Air Group, is based in Seattle, Washington, and mainly operates on the West Coast of the US.

It has been observed that last year the carrier integrated with Hawaiian Airlines which was not particularly impacted by Thursday’s ground stop.

It is the second consecutive IT outage affecting the airline this year.

Additionally, US travel has been complicated in recent weeks due to the US government shutdown that began earlier this month; but this event led to significant disruptions.
