Two killed as small plane crashed near Fort Worth Airfield, igniting massive blaze

On Sunday afternoon, October 12, a Beechcraft King Air C90 twin-engine aircraft collided in a lot of parked semi-trucks adjacent to Hicks Airfield, which exploded into a fireball, killing people on board, and causing damage to vehicles.

The accident took place at about 1:30 p.m. local time at the 12700 block at North Saginaw Boulevard. The Fire Department at Fort Worth established that the two occupants of the aircraft died at the scene. There were no ground injuries mentioned.

The images and appalling witness testimonies portrayed a terrible picture. A witness, Gregory Delano, recounted that he had seen a giant ball of fire. There was a lot of black smoke and this drifted high in the sky visible in Tarrant County.

Fort Worth firefighters along with various other departments in the area reacted promptly and the raging blaze was kept in check within about 35 minutes.

The fire ruined at least 10 parked tractor-trailers.

The crash occurred following takeoff of the aircraft at Alliance Airport which was located nearby.

Investigations to find out the cause of the accident that occurred in clear weather conditions have been opened by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Efforts to secure the scene are currently in progress as investigators continue to examine the flight route and explore the possibility of mechanical failure.
