French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu RESIGNS after one month in office

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has resigned after just one month on the job.

The 41-year-old politician, who took office just a month ago on September 9, 2025, has reportedly resigned just a day after French President Emmanuel Macron announced a new cabinet that was broadly criticised, reports Bloomberg.

The cabinet was set to host its first meeting on Monday, October 6, 2025.

French bonds fell as investors braced for more political uncertainty. The yield on 10-year notes rose nine basis points to 3.6%.

That widened the nation’s borrowing premium over German debt, a key gauge of fiscal risk, to over 89 basis points, the highest level since late 2024.

The latest resignation by the prime minister marks the third failed minority government installed by Macron and it plunges France into another political crisis.

Lecornu, former defense minister and longtime ally of the French President, resignation marks the fifth PM leaving office in last two years.

Lecornu was due to make a speech in front of parliament, the National Assembly, on Tuesday laying out his government’s roadmap.
