Hollywood legend Jim Mitchum has passed away at the age of 84.
The Thunder Road star, known for his breakout role in the 1958 cult classic, died after a prolonged illness.
On Saturday, October 4, a family spokesperson announced that Mitchum had passed away on Saturday, September 20, in Skull Valley, Arizona.
The announcement has flooded the internet with heartfelt tributes to the iconic actor.
One fan wrote, “RIP James Mitchum, [who starred] with his dad in Thunder Road (1958). Sincere condolences to the Mitchum family.”
Another added, “Oh my. He was a clone of his father. God love ya.”
It is pertinent to mention that Mitchum began his acting career at the age of eight, making his debut in the 1949 film Colorado Territory.
However, he earned widespread acclaim after starring alongside his father, Robert Mitchum, in Thunder Road, where he played the role of a mechanic.
Moreover, The Trackdown star’s other notable works include The Victors (1963), The Invincible Six (1970), Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), and The Last Movie (1971).
Following a successful career, the Hollywood legend retired from acting in 1994.
For the unversed, Mitchum is survived by his third wife, Pamela K. Smith, and his children Will, Brian, Ana, and Catlin Ann.
