Some people have an ease and confidence about them that makes you take notice. Talia Jan, an aspiring actress and model, has that quality. She started her career in modelling before moving into television where she has worked on ‘Safar-e-Ishq’, ‘Chauraha’ and ‘Tere Bin’. Commercials for well-known brands also made her a familiar face. With ‘Bojh’ she leaned into a serious role that showed her interest in taking on stories with more weight. Talia believes in steady growth rather than shortcuts, which is why her journey feels thoughtful. Away from the screen she describes herself as reserved, but on set she is known for being punctual and well-mannered. This week, she shares her beauty secrets with our readers…

Do you remember when you first fell in love with makeup?

I remember it so clearly. I was around 3 years old and already obsessed with dressing up. I would sneak into makeup, drape a saree that was way too big for me and put on heels that were definitely not made for tiny feet. I would walk around the house pretending I was on a runway. My family still laughs about it and says I was destined for the spotlight.

What’s your go-to makeup look?

Lip tint. That is my thing and I never leave home without it. On days when I am rushing to a shoot or even meeting friends, a little lip tint instantly gives me that fresh vibe.

Any rituals you swear by when stepping out into the sun?

Sunblock is my holy grail. I apply it religiously and make sure to reapply if I am outdoors for long hours. Even if I am shooting indoors but near big lights or windows, I still wear sunblock.

Any skincare advice for young girls?

A simple routine with a good cleanser, a moisturiser with sunblock, and plenty of water is more effective than using ten different creams. Skincare should be about consistency rather than complicated steps.

What are your top picks for perfumes and lipsticks?

When it comes to lipsticks I trust M.A.C. For perfumes, I reach for Moschino when I want something playful and Versace when I want to feel more elegant.

Finding the perfect foundation is no easy feat. What’s your preferred tone?

I like foundations that match my tone, feel light and are almost invisible. When I put it on, I want it to look like my skin.

After a long day, how do you cleanse your face?

I double cleanse no matter how late it is or how tired I feel. The first cleanse removes makeup and sunscreen and the second makes sure my pores are free of dirt. Skipping this step has never been an option for me because I know how quickly skin can break out if you leave residue overnight.

Hair damage is every girl’s nightmare. How do you tackle it?

I rely on protein treatments. They bring back life into my hair whenever it feels weak or brittle.

What are your go-to tips for maintaining healthy hair?

Oiling works like magic. It is something I grew up watching my family do and it has stayed with me. Whenever I can, I massage oil into my scalp and let it soak. It relaxes me and also improves the quality of my hair.

Not everyone can afford high-end makeup. What’s your advice for them?

I honestly believe you do not need to spend crazy amounts of money to look good. Focusing on two or three essentials can make a big difference.

What does your diet look like to keep that glow going?

Healthy eating is important to me. I pay attention to what I put in my body because it shows up on the skin. One habit I strictly follow is not eating after 8 PM. I feel lighter and more energised the next day when I stick to it. Fresh fruits, vegetables and plenty of water keep me feeling balanced.

Is there a cosmetic you simply can’t live without?

Lip tint is my ride or die product. I have one in my car, one in my bag and sometimes one in my pocket. If I am not wearing anything else, you will still find me wearing lip tint.

When it comes to makeup brands which ones top your list?

KVD and Fendi are my go-to brands.

What essentials do you always carry in your beauty bag?

I always carry a lip tint and a small bottle of perfume.

Is there anything that scares you when applying makeup?

The only thing I worry about is breakouts. I have sensitive skin so I am careful about what I use.

How often do you pamper yourself with a facial at the salon?

I book a facial once a month. It rejuvenates my skin. Those few hours of self-care help me relax and recharge. I consider it an investment in both my appearance and my well-being.

What’s your daily beauty regimen?

My regimen is simple. I eat healthy, stay active and try to spend time in nature.

Where do you usually shop for your makeup goodies?

Sephora is my happy place.

What’s your take on whitening creams?

I do not promote whitening creams. Most of them are full of harsh chemicals that do more harm than good. I prefer products that support natural skin health rather than changing skin tone.

Finally, what does the word ‘beauty’ mean to you?

To me beauty is about being yourself. It is about keeping things natural and simple. I believe in the less is more mind-set because it allows your real personality to shine through. When you are comfortable in your own skin, that confidence is the most beautiful thing you can wear.
