United Airlines flights that were scheduled to depart across the United States and Canada were temporarily grounded on September 24/25, 2025.
United Airlines said it “experienced a brief connectivity issue just before midnight Central time on Tuesday, but has since resumed normal operations.”
The airline requested the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to halt departures because of a “brief connectivity issue.”
The airlines discussed the cause of the brief stop: “During routine maintenance, our ability to connect to our technology network failed. Connections were quickly restored using backup systems.”
The suspension was very short, lasting less than an hour (30 minutes to an hour) before flights resumed normal operations.
The ground stop is over; some residual flight delays might still be expected.
The FAA acknowledged the event, saying, “We’re aware United experienced a technology issue disrupting their operations. Some delays may continue as they work through the recovery process.
This is the second time in less than two months that United Airlines has had a major technology issue that forced a nationwide stop.
A similar, longer glitch happened in early August, causing widespread delays at major airports like Newark, Denver, and Chicago.
United Airlines is a major American airline. It is owned by United Airlines Holdings, Inc. The headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois.
