Feedback

Dear Ed,

I am a regular reader of Us and I have a few suggestions: first off, it would be great to have recipes on winter treats. Quick recipes, easy to make, would be really welcome. If the recipes use simple and affordable ingredients, they will be easy for students and young professionals to try at home. Another idea is to make short book reviews a regular feature. Reading habit needs to be inculcated in the youth, so please recommend must-reads for different moods or even suggest classics that are worth revisiting. Also, I believe ‘The Green Room’ is always a winner, but can be made more interesting by featuring local talent. Adding these changes would make Us even more exciting than it is. Please consider my suggestions.

Hello Editor,

In today’s Us (19 September issue) it was refreshing to see a story on engineers instead of doctors for a change, although ‘Breaking barriers: the rise of women in engineering fields’ by Muhammad Irtaza, focused on women engineers only. I would like to point out that engineers are not as well paid as doctors. When I started out, my first salary was less than the monthly allowance I used to receive from my father, and that was only two years ago. With a job change and some experience, things have improved. My advice to all engineers, whether male or female, is to pursue a Master’s degree, preferably from a foreign university, if they want to start on a reasonable salary. The women I work with are just as capable as the men, and I believe they deserve equal pay because they put in the same effort and at times work even harder to prove themselves.

Heavy school bags

Dear Editor,

Carrying heavy schoolbags has become one of the biggest concerns for students today. Many bags weigh almost as much as the children themselves, causing both physical and mental strain. Carrying such loads can damage their posture, affect their health and harm their overall wellbeing, especially if they walk to school. Although this issue has serious consequences, it often receives little attention. The burden could be reduced if teachers placed greater emphasis on activities rather than loading students with unnecessary books and materials. By understanding these struggles and reducing the load, teachers can help make school a healthier and more enjoyable experience.
