A suspect arrested in a cybercrime case died at District Jail Malir on Saturday, shortly after being transferred there from court custody.
According to Malir Jail Superintendent Shahabuddin Siddiqui, the deceased, identified as 35-year-old Haroon, was brought to the jail at around 4:30pm. Shortly after his arrival, Haroon’s condition reportedly deteriorated, and he was shifted to the jail hospital, where he later passed away.
Siddiqui stated that Haroon allegedly confessed to consuming poison before his arrival at the prison. “The accused admitted that he had taken poison. The initial assessment suggests that this was a suicide,” he said.
Haroon had been arrested in a case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing. His body had been moved to the Civil Hospital, Karachi for legal formalities. The cause of death would be determined after a post-mortem examination. Authorities had launched an investigation into the incident.
