UAE announces Emirates ID renewal change for residents outside country

The United Arab Emirates has reportedly announced a significant change to the Emirates ID renewal process, which applies to citizens renewing their important Emirates ID.

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has officially announced a substantial modification to Emirates ID renewal rules for certain residents.

The updated policy affects residents whose IDs expired when they were outside the UAE.

These individuals now have a one-month grace period to renew their ID after returning to the UAE, instead of a standard 30-day grace period from the ID’s expiry date.

The prime motive behind new regulations is to streamline services and processes.

The ICP is introducing two new services that simplify the Emirates ID renewal process by eliminating the need to provide unnecessary details during renewals.

UAE citizens will now benefit from automatic renewal, which requires just one step.

This step is simply submitting an application and then paying any required fees for the process.

The validity report is designed to vary based on the citizen’s age.

If the the applicant is 21 years of age or under, the renewed Emirates ID will be valid for five years.

If the applicant is aged 21 or above, then the Emirates ID will be valid for 10 years.

The following are the categories of foreigners who can be nominated for UAE citizenship.

Finally, UAE passports are also issued to newborn babies of UAE citizens.
