Former Premier League referee, David Coote, has been accused of making an indecent video of a child of “category A” that goes to define a big fall of the 43-year-old referee.
This is the first hearing of the charge where Coote is expected to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
The most serious type of indecent imagery, penetrative sexual activity, was charged against Nielsen in connection with an alleged offense, on January 2, 2020.
The case was heard almost a year after Coote was fired by Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) in December 2024, after someone released separate controversial videos.
This charge had already ruined Coote's career. In December last year, he was fired following videos of him making derogatory comments about his former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, including mention of his nationality.
In June, the Football Association imposed an eight-week suspension on him due to what the association termed as an aggravated violation of its rules, resulting in his participation in a mandatory education program.
He was also prohibited by Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to serve at European games until June 2026 after another video was caught of him snorting white powder while carrying out his duties at Euro 2024.
Coote identified himself as gay in a January interview and explained his actions as a lifelong struggle with his sexuality.
The FA stated that there were unrelated claims about Coote committing gambling misconduct that were completely investigated, and there should be no action taken against the latter.
The recent indictment is the most momentous legal event in a trail of scandals that have terminated Coote's career as an official and has now has the potential to jeopardize his freedom.
