A furious and quick-moving wildfire devoured thousands of acres and reduced the homes in California Gold Rush Town on Tuesday.
The widely-grown flames spread to 6.25 square miles, compelling the residents and miners from the Chinese Camp Town and its neighbourhood.
According to CalFire, the state’s chief fire agency, at least five homes were ravaged by the intense fire in the rural area. However, no reports of death and injuries have been confirmed till now.
On Tuesday evening, around 7 people were seen moving large tree branches away from the burning homes to contain the fire and threw sand onto the fire to extinguish it before the arrival of firefighters on the affected site.
There is no official report of the fire. However, the firefighters have called for additional resources including dozers, fire engines, and aircrafts to control the blaze.
The wildfire, named as the 6-5 Fire, was allegedly caused by lightning strike as reported by CalFire.
The Chinese settlement, located on the main road to Stockton, was established by Chinese miners in 1850 who were forced out of a nearby camp.
Earlier the town was called Camp Washington, later it changed to Chinese camp, demonstrating the people who came here from China.
