King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan touched down in Uzbekistan this week for a high profile state visit at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, marking another step in strengthening ties between Amman and Tashkent.

The historic visit began on August 26 in the ancient city of Samarkand, where the Jordanian monarch was welcomed with full honors at the Congress Center.

A guard of honour lined the route as President Mirziyoyev personally greeted him with a warm handshake before inviting him to the podium.

The ceremonial welcome reflected the significance of the occasion: the national anthems of both nations rang out, performed by a military orchestra, before the two leaders inspected the honor guard together.

After the formalities, they exchanged greetings with members of their official delegations, setting the stage for a day of talks focused on bolstering political, economic, and cultural cooperation.

Uzbek media reports that the visit is expected to bring fresh momentum to bilateral relations, with agreements in trade, investment, energy, and education on the agenda.

Analysts note that Uzbekistan views Jordan as a vital bridge to the Middle East, while Amman is eager to deepen partnerships across Central Asia.

Later in the visit, King Abdullah and President Mirziyoyev are scheduled to hold private discussions, followed by an expanded meeting between delegations.

The leaders are also expected to sign a series of agreements aimed at opening new avenues of cooperation between the two nations.
