Liverpool blow: Frimpong ruled out with hamstring injury

Liverpool will have to play without new signing Jeremie Frimpong until after the September international break. The Full Back suffered a hamstring injury during the team’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth.

Frimpong was forced off around the 60th minute. Coach Arne Slot later said the medical team advised him to take the player off immediately. According to Slot, this decision prevented the injury from becoming more serious.

The £29m summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen is expected to be out for about four weeks. The means he will miss Monday’s clash with Newcastle and the home game against Arsenal next Sunday.

Amid this bad news for the team there is some good news for football club, as Conor Bradley has returned to training after his hamstring problem.

He could be in contention to feature against Newcastle, but Slot admitted that Bradley is not yet fully match fit.

With Frimpong unavailable, Liverpool are short of Right Back.

Joe Gomez, who recently recovered from an achilles issue, is another option.

Slot also mentioned that midfielders Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai could fill in if needed.

“At the moment, we only have two injuries, but unfortunately both are in the same position,” said Slot, adding, “The good thing is we have other players who can cover.”

She added that Gomez has been slowly building fitness: “He trained with the team, but not three days in a row yet. We’ll see on Monday if he can be involved or even start.”
