Instagram has been revamping its application with the development of new features.
It has been observed that several new features have been introduced on Instagram that include reposting and Instagram map.
The option of tracking a user’s location is an arising concern that their location will be suddenly shared on the platform.
Individuals need not to worry at all as the new feature has the turning off location sharing “at any time” option, confirmed by Meta in a release.
However, location services already existed on the application through the tagging option available on stories and posts.
Instagram map is primarily a new feature on the application that shows a user’s last active location. The feature is off unless users opt for sharing it.
On the other hand, it completely depends upon the users who want to share their location with friends and followers. Users have a choice to not share location with specific people, and subsequently in specific places.
Keeping in view the Meta's instructions, a user’s location is already updated whenever they open the application, it is running in the background.
It is a pivotal step for the parents who want to have control over their children's privacy and location sharing.
The moment their children start sharing their location, they will receive a notification.
Here is a breakdown to change your location sharing settings.
Meanwhile, another concern has been arising that some users have reported that their location was shared without opting for the feature.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has made an attempt to elucidate this matter, stating, “Quick friend map clarification: Your location will only be shared if you decided to share it, and if you do, it can only be shared with a limited group of people….”
He further stated, “Your live location is never shared unless you choose to turn it on. If you do, only people you follow back or a private, custom list you select, can see your location.”
